They like open, treeless areas right down to sea level and may get any prey that is accessible, from compact birds to snakes. In Scotland, they prefer hares and grouse, and sometimes rabbits. In coastal parts, they prefer fulmars to gulls. Some have even been noticed trying to take deer calves. B
